When was the last time someone really listened to you?

Not feeling listened to and understood is soul-crushing for many, especially for sensitives. I know you are likely to find yourself listening to others.

But when were you last really heard?

The art of listening well is a sacred/spiritual encounter ❤︎ (an act of reverence) which I dearly treasure. It’s like going to church or synagogue. And I mean that with the utmost respect.

When we truly & respectfully LISTEN to one another, we change our world. That’s what I hope to do one small act (of listening/healing) at a time!

Teaching and counselling

I taught high school & worked as a guidance counsellor for 5 years.

During that time, students regularly sought me out & confided in me. I realized then (though I really already knew) that counselling & mentoring were my strong suits & passions. They come naturally/effortlessly to me; connecting deeply with others lights me up & gives me great joy. It’s my purpose on this planet.  More importantly, I saw the positive results guidance counselling had on these students. Particularly the sensitive ones.

I watched my regular visitors flourish and grow their confidence, reach goals and overcome numerous obstacles. Together we always found a way through, and in that togetherness, I watched them thrive.

Now I work with my own clients in the same way.

Mary is one of the most genuine people you will ever meet! Her deep curiosity for people comes through immediately, and she exudes a joy & an openness that sparkle in the way she expresses herself. I absolutely love talking with Mary

M.A. in Counselling Psychology

After my teaching stint, I pursued my M.A. in Counselling Psychology and worked in mental health for a decade. These experiences (& a few others) have brought me ‘here’ -- to the creation of The Sensitive Sherpa -- where my love of counselling, connecting, creating, inspiring & growing all beautifully intersect.

  • M.A. degrees in (Counselling) Psychology & Theology

  • High School teaching & counselling experience

  • Parish Ministry experience (Youth & Young Adult Ministry)

  • Worked as a mental health counsellor for many years

  • LOVE working with sensitive young women - especially ones who are beginning their ‘adulting’ journey! Quirky, creative dreamers & misfits are most welcome here!

  • My “work” at The Sensitive Sherpa sets my soul on fire!

The real Mary deal

maryinblue.jpg

Hi, Mary here & I’m a sensitive soul just like you. Let’s connect.

Chances are you will want to find a counsellor you actually like as a person. So here’s a bit more about me, the real Mary deal.

I’ve been highly sensitive (to the 10th power) my entire life. I thought everyone was highly sensitive too - until I realized they weren’t. At that point, many things in my life made much more sense.

I delight in my own quirkiness and will in yours as well. #DelightfullyQuirky

I’m open-minded, enthusiastic, caring & quietly confident. A creative thinker & problem-solving collaborator, especially for emotional & relational “stuff.” That’s where I shine!

Unconventional; definitely! INFP. (Sometimes a J.) -- Myers Briggs

A proud “non-hustler.” I live intentionally & relish my simple, slow-paced, meaningful & happy life.

+ I’m a life-long feminist, humanist, art enthusiast & tea drinker. A dreamer & seeker. An irrepressible night owl.

I love the color pink, gerber daisies, dancing, deep conversations (aren’t they the best?) & converse shoes!

Ohh! I’m also unusually patient (or so I’ve been told!). It’s a family trait. So is a love for ice cream! Yum.

And I’d love to have a virtual tea and meet you.
